Basic Fitness Tips To Get You Addicted To Staying Healthy

The only way you can hurt the body is not use it. Inactivity is the killer and, remember, it’s never too late.

– Jack Lalanne (American fitness and nutritional expert and motivational speaker)

Did you know that most people choose to go on a diet because they suddenly realize they don’t fit into their favorite jeans anymore?  This is not a good motivator because it makes you focus on what you don’t want, and that is, being overweight.

How about shifting your entire focus on what you do want? Looking healthy, trim and sexy, boasting with energy and vitality and adopting a healthy lifestyle. Here are some simple changes you can apply right now to start feeling healthier and more energetic:

Eat Your Way To Energy

A good nutrition plan is more than just weight loss. It’s about paying attention to what you’re eating and knowing which foods are actually good for you. So start your day with a good breakfast ad get the energy you need for the day – at the time when you need it the most. This will help you avoid the afternoon food crash and get the fuel you need to get most things done in the mornings.

Power snacks are great low-sugar protein and fiber intakes that keep you going between each meal. Some suggestions: mixed nuts, nonfat yogurt, peanut butter, frozen berrie smoothies and granola bars.

Also, nutrition experts suggest drinking at least half of your body weight in ounces of water / day (e.g. 150lbs x .75 = 112.5oz) keeps the body fully hydrated and carries the nutrients and oxygen into cells. The brain is made of 90% water, so drinking enough water helps you think better, be more alert and more focused.

Balance Your Blood Sugar

Research studies revealed that the best foods for optimal weight are those that don’t cause a quick rise in blood sugar levels. Eating smaller, more frequent meals with protein and avoiding sugars help you burn more fat and keep your energy and mood more balanced. The key is to eat lots of tasty low carbohydrate foods daily. Some of them include almonds, quinoa, millet, hummus, avocado, walnuts.

Do A Little Exercise Every Day

You don’t have to lift weights for two hours a day, every day but it’s strongly indicated doing a little bit of exercise, at least once a day. What’s important here is not the amount, rather, it’s the habit of exercising and stretching your body for optimal circulation.

Jack Lallane used to say: “Exercise is the catalyst.  That’s what makes everything happen: your digestion, your elimination, your sex life, your skin, hair, everything about you depends on circulation.”

Take Good Care Of Your Brain

“Health is wealth” is an old saying. A healthy brain means a healthy mind and a healthy mind means a powerful mind. Playing a game keeps your mind trained (versus watching TV) and refreshed. There are endless options and you can choose anything from memory, problem solving, speed and attention board or pc games to the more engaging board games such as Monopoly, chess and more. Give yourself the gift of a brighter brain and play.
